I trained at the University of Milan, then spent years in NHS community midwifery in Brighton. The NHS gave me so much &#8211; clinical experience, working with diverse families, understanding systems from the inside.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">But it was working alongside experienced independent midwives in Italy that taught me what&#8217;s possible when you give women time and trust their bodies. Birthing my own two babies at home deepened that knowing. Training in bodywork and nervous system practices &#8211; craniosacral therapy, biomechanics, somatic work, birth trauma support &#8211; shaped how I hold space now.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Rise Midwives was born from a partnership with Nelly &#8211; two midwives hungry to practise the way we knew was possible &#8211; with time, with presence, with trust at the centre. Nelly is currently on maternity leave, living her own fourth trimester.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Most of the time, my work is quiet. I stay out of the way. When skill is needed, I use it &#8211; but birth works best when women are trusted, not managed.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">We serve families across Sussex and surrounding areas, taking limited clients each month because this work requires presence, not At 3 minutes, around 90%. \n\nSo when someone clamps at 1 or 2 minutes and calls it delayed, your baby just missed almost half of what was theirs.\n\nI\u2019VE SEEN CORDS STILL FULL OF BLOODS AT 5 MINUTES AND PULSATING FOR EVEN LONGER and do you know why?\n\nBecause we are all different and we don\u2019t follow guidelines, research, timelines,\u2026. Your baby might take longer or shorter or you might feel strong about a specific timing. \n\nYou don\u2019t have to accept someone else\u2019s timeline.\n\n\u2b50\ufe0fYou can say: we\u2019re waiting to cut the cord until I say so.\u2b50\ufe0f\n\n\ud83d\udc49To know when all the blood has gone back to your baby: You will notice that the cord stops pulsing, if you feel it in between your fingers and  and goes limp and white, with no more blood in it (sometimes it still pulsating even then). \n\nTBH with you : You can just hold your baby and wait.\nThere is NO emergency or urgency in those minutes.
