Birth Trauma Healing: You Don’t Have to Carry This Alone

Are you struggling with birth trauma healing? Maybe you have landed here because you have challenging feelings or physical symptoms related to the birth of your baby and you are ready to step forward.

You might be thinking:

“Why can’t I move on? I should feel grateful.”

“My experience wasn’t traumatic enough, considering that I have a healthy baby now.”

“I failed to give birth but it turned out OK because I have a healthy baby.”

Do you feel guilt, confusion or sadness when you think about your birth experience? You’re not alone. And your feelings are valid.

Your Birth Trauma is Valid

You may not necessarily have been diagnosed with PTSD, but it may still feel not quite right.

This is important: You don’t need a diagnosis for your experience to matter. You don’t need your birth to have been “traumatic enough” by someone else’s standards. If it feels difficult for you, if you can’t move forward, if thinking about the birth brings up painful emotions—that’s enough.

Birth trauma healing isn’t about comparing your experience to others. It’s about acknowledging that something happened that doesn’t feel resolved, and giving yourself permission to seek support.

What is Birth Trauma?

Birth trauma can happen even when you have a healthy baby. Even when “everything turned out fine.” Even when medical staff told you everything went well. Birth trauma healing addresses the gap between what happened clinically and what happened emotionally and psychologically.

You might experience:

  • Flashbacks or intrusive thoughts about the birth
  • Anxiety about future pregnancies or births
  • Difficulty bonding with your baby
  • Hyper-vigilance or feeling on edge
  • Avoidance of anything that reminds you of the birth
  • Feeling disconnected from your body
  • Grief for the birth experience you didn’t have
  • Anger toward care providers, your partner, or yourself
  • Shame or guilt about your feelings

These are normal responses to difficult experiences. They don’t mean you’re broken. They mean you need support to process what happened.

Birth Trauma Healing: The 3 Step Rewind Method

I offer birth trauma healing using the 3 Step Rewind Method, a gentle and safe way of working with parents to lift the heavy or intense feelings and symptoms that can remain after a difficult or traumatic perinatal experience related to pregnancy, birth, or the postnatal period.

The 3 Step Rewind method activates a person’s innate ability to heal themselves. The simple but effective steps will help you to:

  • Move through past traumatic experiences
  • Acknowledge their current impact on your day-to-day life
  • Create a path forward so that you can release the difficult feelings associated with the memory

You Don’t Have to Share the Details

Here’s what makes the 3 Step Rewind method particularly powerful for birth trauma healing:

You do NOT have to share the details of your experience for the process to be effective.

As long as the memory is there, you can be guided through the steps and find relief. You don’t have to relive the trauma. You don’t have to tell me every painful detail. The process works with your brain’s natural ability to reprocess memories without requiring you to verbally recount them.

This makes it ideal for experiences that feel too painful, shameful, or overwhelming to talk about.

What to Expect: Birth Trauma Healing Sessions

The 3 Step Rewind Method for birth trauma healing most typically involves three sessions, although sometimes you might want a fourth session.

Session Format

  • Available virtually or in person – Sessions can be received over video call or face-to-face in Brighton, Lewes, or Eastbourne
  • Each session takes up to an hour
  • Spacing – Sessions are typically spaced a week or two apart to allow integration
  • Additional support – In some cases, if you feel you still need more work, it is possible to repeat this process

The Process

At the end of the process, you will have a chance to reflect on the process and to consolidate and embody the shifts that have taken place from the Rewind process.

The 3 Step Rewind method can help you to move forward with a different emotional response. Instead of feeling triggered, stuck, or overwhelmed by the memory, you can remember what happened without the same intensity of distress.

I can help to release the emotions related to your birth, pregnancy, or postnatal period.

Birth Reflection Services

Sometimes you don’t need full birth trauma healing sessions—you just need space to talk through what happened and make sense of your experience.

I also offer birth reflection sessions where we can:

  • Review your birth story together
  • Help you understand what happened and why certain decisions were made
  • Answer clinical questions about your birth
  • Validate your feelings and experiences
  • Identify what support might help you move forward
  • Discuss options if you’re planning another pregnancy

Birth reflection can stand alone or be a helpful first step before deciding whether you want to pursue birth trauma healing through the 3 Step Rewind method.

These sessions are available virtually across the UK or in person in Brighton, Lewes, and Eastbourne.

Who Can Benefit from Birth Trauma Healing?

Birth trauma healing using the 3 Step Rewind method can support you if:

  • Your birth didn’t go as planned and you’re struggling to accept what happened

  • You’re experiencing symptoms of PTSD related to birth

You don’t have to “just get over it.” You don’t have to feel grateful when you feel hurt. Your experience matters, and healing is possible.

Part of Comprehensive Midwifery Support

Birth trauma healing can be part of your private midwifery care or accessed as a standalone service. If you’re planning another pregnancy, we can integrate trauma processing into your pregnancy care to help you feel more prepared and supported..

You Deserve to Heal

“Why can’t I just get over the birth? Why can’t I move on? I should feel grateful.” You’re asking these questions because you care. Because you want to feel better. Because you know something isn’t right.

The answer isn’t to force yourself to feel grateful. The answer is to give yourself permission to acknowledge what happened, to feel what you feel, and to seek support to process it. Birth trauma healing isn’t about forgetting what happened. It’s about remembering without the same pain. It’s about moving forward without carrying the weight of unresolved trauma.

You deserve this. Your experience matters. Your healing matters. Let’s work together.
